SAS
Force didn't necessarily follow the same model as the real SAS, including
water-based units which would more accurately have been SBS types. These
included Beaver, Stakeout
and Barracuda.
The latter
was a simple reuse of the black Frogman figure from the 1983 Action
Force series, with the addition of an SAS Force insignia to the left
breast and black gloves replacing the exposed hands. He was sold under
the name SAS Frogman.
The result
is quite slick in nearly all-black, but it does leave you torn between
the common sense of a stealthy frogman being dressed in all-black and
the desire to make the figure a little more visually interesting - yellow
strips down the arms and sides might have looked good... But then they
might not have.
Barracuda
is nicely made, though. The aqualung is probably the most successful
of the Palitoy rubber backpacks, fitting over the chest nicely and not
seeming to deform quite so easily as some of the others. The legs do
seem closer together and thinner than others in the range, though he
balances better with flippers. It's one of the cheaper SAS Force figures,
though, and while it lacks the dynamism of something like the 25th Anniversary
Torpedo
(obviously), it's still a nicely-done figure.
